Let the kids’ creativity shine, and you’ll have an ever-changing exhibit that’s full of memories, laughs, and plenty of ‘What is that, exactly?’ moments.
Now, welcome to the most exclusive art gallery in town, where macaroni is the new medium and glitter is forever. Here, we showcase the finest works from your pint-sized Picassos and budding Van Goghs—stick figures, abstract blobs, and all! Who needs the Louvre when you have a wall that says, ‘Look, Mom, I made this!’ Just remember, no touching… unless you’re rotating the collection for next week’s masterpiece!
Materials Needed:
- Variety of Picture Frames (different sizes and styles, preferably rustic-modern for a cozy, natural look)
- Measuring Tape (for spacing out frames evenly)
- Painter’s Tape or Masking Tape (to plan your layout on the wall)
- Picture Hanging Hooks (for mounting frames)
- Level (to make sure your frames are straight)
- Hammer or Drill (depending on the type of hooks used)
- Nails or Screws (for securing the hooks)
- Your Kids’ Art (the stars of the show!)
- Optional: Label Maker or Small Tags (to label and “title” each artwork)
- Command Strips (if you want a less permanent, damage-free option)
Step 1: Select your Art and Frames
Choose a mix of your kids’ favorite drawings, paintings, or craft projects. Go for a variety of frame sizes to create a fun, eclectic look. Rustic-modern frames with natural wood tones or distressed finishes will add warmth and charm to the gallery wall.
Step 2: Plan your layout on the Floor
If yoBefore mounting anything, lay the frames out on the floor in front of the wall. Play around with the arrangement until you find a layout that feels balanced and visually interesting. Don’t be afraid to mix large and small frames in an organic way!
Step 3: Use Painters Tape to Mark the Wall
Transfer your layout from the floor to the wall using painter’s tape. Tape off the outlines of your frames directly on the wall. This gives you a visual guide without committing to any holes just yet.
Step 4: Measure and Mark
Use a measuring tape to ensure that your frames will be spaced evenly. A good rule of thumb is to leave about 2-3 inches between each frame. Mark the spot where each frame’s hook will go with a pencil.
Step 5: Hang your Frames
Using a hammer or drill, attach picture hooks or nails where you made your marks. If you’re going for a more flexible setup, Command Strips can be used for smaller frames or lightweight pieces. Use a level to make sure each frame is straight before securing it.
Step 6: Insert your Kid’s Art
Place your children’s masterpieces in the frames. You can change the art regularly to keep the display fresh and celebrate new creations as they come in! Take a step back and enjoy the new art gallery in your home! This ever-changing wall will become a fun conversation piece and a way to celebrate your children’s creativity.
Bonus Tip:
For an extra personalized touch, label each artwork with the artist’s name, age, and the title of their piece (even if it’s just “Squiggles of Joy”). You can use a label maker, small tags, or handwritten notes.
Your new gallery wall will be a perfect combination of style and sentiment, capturing both the rustic modern aesthetic and the imaginative energy of your little artists!
