The Chili That Says, “Relax, It’s 5 O’Clock Somewhere!”
Forget the typical chili night—this version is here to spice things up and bring the party! Beer Chili is like your favorite chili, but with an extra layer of flavor that screams, “I’m here for a good time!” The beer adds a subtle richness, making it feel like a cozy bowl of comfort food and a celebration all in one. Whether you’re tailgating, watching the big game, or just trying to justify cracking open a cold one on a Tuesday night, this chili’s got your back. Bonus points if you save a swig of beer to sip while it simmers. It’s chili time—let’s get cooking!
Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey if you’re feeling fancy)
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 1 red bell pepper, diced
- 2 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 can (15 oz) navy bean, drained and rinsed
- 1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes
- I can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1 bottle of beer (preferably a lager or pale ale)
- 2 tbsp chili powder
- 1 jalapeno pepper (add seeds for heat, remove seeds for just the flavor)
- 1 tsp of cumin
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional for heat)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Sour cream, shredded cheese, and green onions for garnish (optional but highly encouraged)
Instructions:
- Brown the Beef (Or Turkey!): In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat a little oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef (or turkey), breaking it apart as it cooks. Once it’s browned and crumbly, drain any excess fat.
- Sauté the Veggies: Toss in the diced onion, garlic, and bell peppers. Sauté until the veggies are softened, about 5 minutes. Your kitchen should smell amazing by now.
- Add the Beer & Simmer: Pour in the bottle of beer (and try not to chug the rest—you’re saving that for the chili!). Stir in the diced tomatoes, beans, tomato paste, chili powder, cumin, paprika, cayenne, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Let it simmer for at least 30 minutes, but the longer, the better to let those flavors really party.
- Taste & Adjust: Give it a taste and adjust the seasoning as needed. Too spicy? Add a bit more tomato. Not spicy enough? Toss in more cayenne.
- Serve & Garnish: Ladle that beer-infused goodness into bowls, and top with shredded cheese, a dollop of sour cream, and a sprinkle of green onions. Serve with cornbread or tortilla chips for ultimate chili happiness.
Optional Add-ins/Add-ons:
- If you’re feeling adventurous, toss in some bacon or sausage for extra smoky flavor.
- Swap the ground beef for ground turkey or even ground pork if you’re in the mood for a twist.
And there you have it! A hearty, flavor-packed Beer Chili that’s perfect for chilly days, game nights, or any time you need an excuse to cook with beer. Cheers to a bowl full of comfort and fun!
